| About Us |
We are proud to be fifth generation farmers, and fourth on the original homestead, in central Kansas. The bloodlines of the hardy Christian settlers and the Earth-loving Cherokee course through our veins. Jon's ancestors came across the plains in a covered wagon and Heather's maiden name comes from the Cherokee word for "buffalo hide scraper", one of many jobs her great-great-great grandfather performed. Our heritage promotes a legacy of hard work and wise stewardship which we want to share with you in quality end products.
We care about our animals. Currently we have two herds that travel together in extended family groups. Our ring-leader is a best-of-show bull, Thunderhoof, who keeps a watchful eye over the buffalo community. Though impressively large, he can be docile enough to eat from our hands.
Hand-feeding buffalo is not an activity we promote (unless the animals are your own.) Though buffalo are not drastically different in appearance from cows, they are entirely different in temperament. They are deceptively quiet, extremely agile, and surprisingly quick, sharing more similarities with deer than cattle. They are wonderful jumpers, able to jump 5 to 6 feet flat-footed. In addition they have impecable memories and are highly intelligent animals.
God created a great many things in this world, but we think buffalo are one of His most impressive creations. We hope youll agree.
